Media Release: Advocates hope forced adoption ad will see gillard evolve on marriage equality

Marriage equality advocates have responded strongly to a new Australian Marriage Forum advertisement that compares same-sex parenting to forced adoption.

The ad, which is currently being aired on the Nine Network, has also raised the ire of former Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, whose apology to those affected by forced adoption features in the ad and who says she is considering legal action. Read more

Media Release: Amendment to media release on Josh Frydenberg and marriage equality 26/3/2015

Contrary to several news reports, Josh Frydenberg has not said he believes same-sex couples should be allowed to marry. This can be confirmed with his office. He has said he supports a free vote, believes attitudes are changing in parliament, and has been moved by the personal stories of constituents who are in same-sex relationships. Apologies for the misleading media release below. On behalf of AME, my response to Mr Frydenberg’s comments is,

“I welcome Josh Frydenberg’s acknowledgement that Australians are comfortable with marriage equality and that an increasing number of Liberal MPs support it.” Read more

Australia Senate calls for conscience vote on marriage equality

Australia’s national Senate has supported a motion calling on all parties to allow a conscience vote on same-sex marriage.
The motion, proposed by Greens senator Sarah Hanson-Young, passed the upper house where opposition parties have the majority. The ruling Liberal-National coalition voted against.
