UK’s PM Doesn’t Mind If Gay Couples Kiss in Public

“OK, you’re in a public park – two men, recently married, are kissing each other. Is that sweet? Or is that mildly inappropriate?”

That’s the question posed to UK Prime Minister David Cameron by BBC Newsnight interviewer Evan Davis, giving the popular centre-right politician a chance to show how broad-minded he is.

New Marriage Equality Bill Delayed: “The Timing’s Wrong”

Liberal Democratic Party Senator for NSW David Leyonhjelm says he won’t be introducing his marriage equality legislation this week.

He announced his Bill in July and had hoped to introduce it soon, aiming for bipartisan support and urging Prime Minister Tony Abbott to grant his Coalition MPs an individual conscience vote.

Julia Gillard on Marriage Equality: Former PM Says Only a Matter of Time Before Same-Sex Unions Legal in Australia

Former Labor prime minister Julia Gillard says she accepts it is a matter of time before same-sex marriage is legal in Australia.

Ms Gillard has given a rare interview to Channel Nine ahead of the release of a memoir she has written about her time in the top job.

As prime minister she opposed same-sex marriage and maintained she believed in the “traditional” definition of the union.

Gay marriage: Settling The Question of Whether it’s Time to Allow Same-Sex Couples to Marry

MARRIAGE equality in Australia is closer than ever with the Federal Parliament likely to face a conscience vote on the issue this year, which would allow members to vote according to their personal views.

In 2011 Labor changed its official policy platform to advocate for same-sex marriage. The Liberal party room will soon decide whether to allow their members a conscience vote, fulfilling an election promise of Prime Minister Tony Abbott’s to leave it up to the party room. Mr Abbott’s own sister Christine Forster is in a same-sex relationship.

Gosford’s Pro-Marriage Equality Priest: Why I Won’t Wed Gay Couples

AN Anglican priest who has championed the cause of marriage equality has caused consternation in his congregation by revealing he would refuse to wed gay couples – even if same-sex marriage were to be legalised.

Father Rod Bower, of the Anglican Parish of Gosford on NSW’s Central Coast, has made headlines nationwide and received thousands of social media followers due to his eye catching and provocative slogans posted outside his church on a range of issues from immigration and the environment to marriage equality.

Media Release: “One-Sided” Senate Report “A Slap In The Face” To Same-Sex Couples

Marriage equality advocates say a Senate report released today is one-sided and a slap in the face to same-sex couples married overseas.

The Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee has released its report into a bill from SA Greens Senator, Sarah Hanson-Young, which seeks to recognise the marriages of hundreds of Australian same-sex couples who have legally wed in places like the US, UK and New Zealand Read more

Forum: Exploring the Constitutionality of the Same Sex Marriage Bill 2013

Join Lynn MacLaren Greens MLC WA at a special forum feat. University of NSW constitutional lawyer Prof George Williams, who will be exploring the constitutionality of Lynn’s Same-Sex Marriage Bill 2013.

Ms MacLaren introduced the state-based Bill into WA Parliament late last year; with the Prime Minister showing little interest in addressing the issue at a Federal level, we must work towards equality State by State.   Read more

Same-sex Marriage: Liberal MP Craig Laundy Changes Stance on Free Vote

Liberal MP Craig Laundy has had a change of heart on the same-sex marriage debate.

And it is not good news for advocates of marriage equality.

Mr Laundy had been one of the only Coalition MPs in the class of 2013 who had come out publicly in support of a free vote on same-sex marriage, even though he did not support same-sex marriage himself for religious reasons. Last December, he told Fairfax Media, he had “zero interest” in forcing his views on other MPs.

Norfolk Island Could Legalise Same-Sex Marriage By The End of 2014

Norfolk Island Considers Marriage Equality

THE gay descendent of the mutineer Fletcher Christian says he’s excited he may soon be able to wed his partner, as one of Australia’s smallest territories pushes forward with plans to make same-sex marriage legal.

REBELLION is once again in the air on Norfolk Island, as the self-governing territory of 2000 people half way between Australia and New Zealand prepares to vote on the law in the coming weeks.
